# Vendor and contract settings

> Vendor types and service categories, contract types, and what each coverage category actually covers.

## Vendor types

What kind of company this is: manufacturer, distributor, service contractor, labour supplier,
calibration house. Types can carry different approval requirements — a service contractor coming on
site needs insurance a parts distributor does not.

## Vendor service categories

What a vendor is engaged **for**: mechanical services, electrical, calibration, HVAC, civil works.

These are used by the entitlement check. A job in a category a vendor is not engaged for will not be
matched to their contract, however live it is.

## Contract types

The kinds of agreement you hold:

| Type                  | What it is                          |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **Warranty**          | Manufacturer's cover on a new asset |
| **AMC**               | Annual maintenance contract         |
| **CMC**               | Comprehensive maintenance contract  |
| **Service agreement** | A defined scope over a period       |

Add your own where these do not fit.

## Coverage categories

What a contract can be said to cover: **parts**, **labour**, **travel**, **consumables**, and any
category you add.

This list is what makes a contract's coverage checklist meaningful:

  These categories are what the [entitlement](/commercial/entitlements) engine evaluates against.
  Define them at the granularity your agreements actually distinguish — if none of your contracts
  separates travel from labour, do not create the distinction here.

## Compliance document types

The documents a vendor must hold current: public liability insurance, employer's liability, safety
accreditation, trade licences.

Each type carries whether it **blocks use** when expired. A lapsed public-liability policy should
stop a contractor coming on site; an out-of-date company brochure should not.

Expiring documents raise a [notification](/config/notifications) ahead of time.
